Story of a Liberated Soul
A haunting micro-story whispered by a soul that lived hidden in someone's body, preparing to slip away unseen the night it is finally exhaled.

I will leave one night, when no one sees me. When silence and darkness camouflage my inexplicable identity. I will leave the dying castle before the birds awaken, when you are still asleep and your heartbeat echoes with mine; so that you won't notice me, so that you won't feel my breath fading into the night air.
If they ask you what happened, tell them I was a fever dream. That altitude sickness ran through your blood, injected by a serpent's tooth.
Everyone will believe you. No one ever bore witness to my presence. No one ever saw me, embodied here in my body, and if anyone glimpsed my shadow, it was perhaps when hidden among fabrics, I lived intertwined among your garments.
I was your skin, almost yourself. We lived so united that together we wove the enveloping chrysalis that binds us. There I was, liquid in your tears, tightening your heart in your sorrows. I was your hand and you my fingers, and your womb was my home in winters. When that abandoned memory came, I was also that story you kept silent.
That's why, the day you exhale me, you won't remain in the castle at rest. You will come with me, embedded in myself, forever, leaving behind the ethereal thread that once united us with your body.
